Welcome to my ePortfolio.  I have been a tutor at DePaul's University Center for Writing-based Learning for six years now.  During my time as a tutor, a GA, a receptionist, and a coordinator with the UCWbL, I have had many opportunities to work with a myriad of writers on more subjects and projects than I could have ever imagined.

I often joke that, as a result of all the writers from all the programs and majors, I end up learning more from them than I did from all my other schooling combined.  This learning is based both in the content of their work (I am so lucky to learn so much about so many subjects as I review essays), but also within the conversations we have about writing styles, discourse communities, and conventions for writing.  I understand more and more about the theories of writing as I see them play out each day.

Throughout this ePortfolio, you will find references to my work as a tutor and a coordinator for the 2013-2014 year, discussions on teaching and tutoring in general, experience as a WRD instructor and discourse community member and how these all relate to my philosophy of writing.  The text to the left is the one I use in my WRD 103 course, but also defines the way I approach tutoring and teaching--in that we are discussing (or writing about) writing.  It is a meta-approach that allows for greater understanding of the moves we make in our writing and thinking and how those change our understanding of the work we do and why we do it.

As you read through my ePortfolio, you will find images of Autumn in and around Chicago.  I chose this design since I see Autumn, not Spring, as the time for change and new growth.  This is due to the fact that each Autumn quarter, a new school year begins with new students on campus, new tutors at the UCWbL, and a new academic year for me to continue developing as a tutor and teacher.
