Judy Friedman:

Teaching the Value of the Written Word

Just as writing validates our experience, this Teaching Portfolio validates my role as a university instructor and passionate writer. Whether teaching PR strategies to PRAD 256, writing a national magazine feature, or coaching students in English grammar and punctuation, I am all about the written word.

Take a moment to understand my approach, read my stories, and see the connections that have shaped my ideas and teaching methods. Following my course in the Teaching and Learning Certificate Program (TLCP), I have come away with one most important lesson:

Teaching is a dynamic pursuit.

We call ourselves instructors, but in fact, we are learners. Just as we can always edit our writing, we can always find ways to better our teaching. With an open ear to students and colleagues, with a willingness to experiment and adapt to change, and an eye on evolving technology as a resource, we can keep minds fresh and audiences engaged—to inspire the next generation of writers.
