Eating Meat in America: Honors 100 Final Portfolio

Growing up in rural Iowa, I was always exposed to the livestock and agriculture industry. It wasn't until high school, however, that I became interested in the concept of sustainable food. After reading Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food, I began searching the shelves of the public library for more. I found the history of the food industry fascinating. I read as much as I could about it, but I never delved into specific issues within the realm of sustainable eating.

I chose to research the environmental impact of the livestock industry because it is something that I was already interested in, but also wanted to learn more about. Being a conscious consumer is very important to me, and I really enjoyed researching this topic and learning more about the livestock industry.

This research project is my journey to learn more about how our everyday decisions affect the environment - and choices that we can make to better the world.
