Dear Reader,

We’d like to welcome you to the third annual edition of Global Voices, a celebration of the work of DePaul’s multilingual writing community published by the Collaborative for Multilingual Writing and Research (CMWR).  The CMWR is a branch of the University Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL), and this publication marks the end of our third year of operations.

The CMWR was founded on the belief that linguistic diversity and multilingual writing enrich the academic community. In Global Voices, we endeavor to emphasize how linguistic diversity is an inherent part of DePaul's ethos by showcasing academic and creative works reflecting the linguistic and cultural diversity present in the community.

As editors for Global Voices, the CMWR team continues to be surprised and delighted by the material we are privileged to review and include.  This spring we are excited to share with our readers a diverse range of genres and voices such as personal narrative on one international student's newfound appreciation for life after fleeing the terror of war, one student's research projet on the analysis of the recognition of indigenous culture in Mexico — published in both English and Spanish, do's and don'ts for integrating into American culture as an international student, and a young man's personal narrative describing the power of love in the face of violence and unexpected obstacles — these and more.

We hope you enjoy this third issue of Global Voices.  Look for subsequent issues each spring.

Sincerely,

The CMWR Team
