Theodor Suess Geisel  II  Dr. Seuss

Theodor Seuss Geisel was a bright and intelligent man who gave children a world

where there imagination could run wild. At a young age, he had been creating mayhem in the classroom with his diffrent way of thinking. His art teacher would tell him, "There are rules that every artist must abide by. You will never succeed if you break them." Thankfully, he did.

He showed us that we could create a little mayhem with The Cat in the Hat, and reminded us the true meaning of Christmas in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He showed us the meaning of every human being in Horton Hears A Who, and exposed the threat of pollution in The Lorax. All of his books held a special message to reach out to the kids of America. He wanted them to be able to formulate their own opinions on serious issues before the adults got to them first.

Only recognized as Dr. Seuss, many people are unaware that his real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. His parents noted his love of cartoons, rhymes, and jokes at an early age and rather than focusing on his studies, he focused on his art. Unfortuantely, his life soon turned for the worst with the death of his sister Marnie and his wife Helen- both very influential and important people in Geisel's life. But through all of this, Theodor Seuss Geisel perservered and became the iconic character we all grew up to love as Dr.Seuss.

My biography on Theodor Seuss Geisel's life will recount the life experiences that have led him to become the famous Dr. Seuss. My research process began with renting as many books from the DePaul Library that I could find on Theodor Seuss Geisel- which unfortunately, only amounted to three. Nonetheless, these books gave me enough information that I was able to write enough of my paper referencing these sources only. During the revision process, I felt that my paper was strong, but quickly learned otherwise. The first step in the revision process was peer review. I had three people read my first rough draft, each with their own critiques and ideas. I rewrote my first draft and then had another person read my paper again before I changed it for what I had hoped was the last time. The last step was to turn my paper in for the professor to review. Thankfully, after she returned my essay I didn't have to many mistakes, but only a few minor editing problems. But overall, the researching and writing process for Dr. Seuss's  biography was fun and felt effortless because I had the opportunity to learn about somebody whose books I read as a child. Now, I feel that my paper is tremendously stronger from my initial first draft; therefore, I hope you enjoy reading my essay!
