La Leche League International is a nonprofit organization founded in Franklin Park, Illinois, devoted to promoting breastfeeding among mothers and providing support for women who want to breastfeed their babies. The League has chapters in sixty-eight countries, and has published a breastfeeding manual, The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, which is currently in its 8th edition.  Through its rhetoric, La Leche League has worked to frame breastfeeding as a skill which should be passed from “mother to mother” and as a way for women to feel in control of and fully connected to their mother experience.
