Ameena Matthews is what is known as a violence interrupter in the group Ceasefire. A violence interrupter is someone who stops the transmission of violence by intervening in a dangerous situation, often involving gangs. As the daughter of notorious gang leader Jeff Fort and a former gang member herself, she has the credibility to do so.

She has since become an advocate for family and for community. By using "tough love" and her "street" wisdom, she has become the watchful, motherly eye of the violence-ridden streets of Chicago.
