He is the shadow against a grey wall

He is the hurt that comes after a fall

He is the ringing inside of your ear

He is what you are when you aren’t possessed by fear

She is the willow tree in the corner of the yard

She is the feeling in your stomach when you realize you’ve gone too far

She is the coyote you see in the street

Late that summer night

She is the smell of flowers, sweet

That filled the air after Pete and Chaz’s fight

June twenty- second was the night I realized

What it really meant to be

Blessed by Gods of mosquitos, baptized

And renamed, Amy Nicolette, for free

The summer is what we were

The grass was evergreen

I dare to call it a desire deferred

The remnants of a daydream
