The Inagural Peer Tutor &
Mentor Summit
Friday, March 11, 2011
This date in 2011 marked the Summit's inaugural event. By all accounts it was a runaway success. Attended by over 120 participants, the Summit demonstrated both the value of and need for such a gathering of peer tutors and mentors at DePaul.
The Summit was the brainchild of UCWbL Associate Director Liz Coughlin, (then) UCWbL Outreach Coordinator Rachel Hedrick, (then) GAs Kevin Lyon and Kimberly Anderson, and UCWbL Tutor Margaret Poncin. The purpose of the event was to network between offices, to collaborate with other peer mentors and tutors at DePaul, and to learn from one another's missions and practices; the idea was such a driving force for the event, that Network, Collaborate, Learn was adopted as the tagline for the event. The Summit then consisted of an information fair, a conversation cafe, a presentation from guest speaker Art Munin, and several Round Robin topic presentations.
Following the event, the team quickly got to work planning the second annual summit that took place the following spring.
