Fall 2012-13 Peer Tutor &

Mentor Summit

DePaul students, staff, and faculty from peer tutoring, advising, counseling, and mentoring programs are invited to the third annual DePaul Peer Tutor and Mentor Summit:

Friday, October 5, 2012, 10am-3pm Cortelyou Commons (Breakfast & Lunch provided)

The theme for the 2012-13 Summit is “Journeys.”

As tutors and mentors we have been a part of students’ journeys at DePaul, and in turn they have been a part of ours.  Throughout our journeys, we have also seen how an unexpected turn of events can lead to remarkable (and often unexpected) possibilities, as it did for St. Vincent de Paul.  Reflecting on the events that brought each of our programs to where we are and have shaped where we are going, the 2012-13 Peer Tutor and Mentor Summit will focus on the journeys we embark on in each of our programs as peer tutors, mentors, advisors, counselors, staff, and faculty members.  We invite participants to share their experiences with the history of their journeys, the theories that have created (or complicated) their current pathways, and the ways they have embraced the high roads and low roads of their journeys.

How has your office followed the journeys we are called to at DePaul?  How have mentors played a role in your own development?  How has your office responded to roadblocks and detours along your journey?  How have you embraced the challenges in your journeys?  What do you do to help others find their way along the road?  How has “where you are going” been changed by “how you are getting there”?  The Summit will give us an opportunity to talk about these and other questions.

The day’s agenda will include:

Breakfast:  Provided by the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS).

An Information Session:  An interactive way to share information about your program or office

Keynote Address:  Rev. Ed Udovic, Secretary of the University, Senior Executive for University Mission, Vice President for Teaching and Learning Resources

Reflection and Conversation Café:  An informal, semi-structured networking discussion.

Lunch: Provided by the University Center for Writing-based Learning.

Round Robin Sessions: Short, 20 minute interactive workshops or discussions on topics related to the Summit’s theme.  Round Robin leaders will repeat their sessions a set number of times as groups of attendees move from table to table.

Please visit the RSVP form by September 21st to reply with the following:

• RSVP: Provide a list of attendees and/or encourage individuals to RSVP on their own (we especially hope your student staff members can come).

• Round Robin Session Proposal(s): To propose a Round Robin Session connected to the conference theme, complete the proposal form, which asks for a title, leaders’ names and contact info, and short (1-paragraph) description.  Round Robin sessions will be 20 minutes.  Offices can submit multiple proposals, but, due to space constraints, we may not be able to accept all proposals. We will inform people whether or not their proposals have been accepted by Monday, September 24.   Please let us know if you need any help developing a Round Robin topic within the theme.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to others who might be interested!

Fr. Udovic continues to play a leading role in establishing DePaul as the premier international site for research and scholarship into Vincentian history, spirituality, leadership, and praxis. His most recent accomplishment was bringing the Vincentian Studies Institute of the United States (founded in 1979) under the university’s sponsorship.

Fr. Udovic frequently has been tapped to lead or participate in university-wide endeavors, including recent executive level searches, the presidential inauguration and strategic planning efforts. On two occasions he has served as acting vice president for Human Resources; he has served as the acting director of the Office of the General Counsel and from 2001-2006 served as vice president for Administration.
